ICE ICE BABY!

We went to Charlie Brown Ice at nashville. This is the second time we are going and first time for AJ. Ice is nothing but ice sculptures maintained at 6F...FREEEEEZING Cold...and we never learn from our mistakes..Both B and Ashu forgot their gloves. I gave my gloves to ashu and the kids were just fine. AJ was cranky because he slept in the car and we woke him and he was hungry too. I forgot to take snacks with me. He did not cooperate for snaps, but enjoyed the slide inside. It was made out of ice too and they both didnt want to come from there. i was freezing to death and i was getting really mad. Finally we had to drag aj out of there and i was wondering if i had to thaw their butts in microwave after all the sliding :)

We bought some shortbread cookies on the gift shop and ran outside as fast as we can. BRRR!

Christmas
========

This is the first christmas for AJ as we were in india last two years. We started buying gifts for christmas after Ashwin's birth as we did not want him to miss the festivity here. We even bought a kutty tree when he was three. He likes hanging the mini ornaments in it :) This time AJ helped too. I packed the gifts after they went to sleep and they were quite excited in the morning. I bet ashu was only pretending because he knew about each and every gift we got for him :-) I did not have time to get some surprise gift for him..also, i did not want to as the house is overwhelmed with toys already. AJ was truly excited. Even though he was with us when bought the toys he did not pay attention to any of it as he was busy with some knickknack. Next year, Ashu wants a big tree. This year was so hectic that we did not put any lights outside and Ashu said our house did not look pretty. Whatever! :) Seriously, our house looked so pathetic in our neighbourhood. but, ours was not alone..so that gave some consolation :D

Where do they learn?

Today when i went to pick up AJ, Ms. Nikki was giggling and when i entered she told AJ just did something funny. She said Ms. Jody had walked into their room and AJ was sitting with his leg near the door and when she opened he said OW and moved his leg quickly. He didn't get hurt as he was really quick, but had said 'Careful Jody' and they were all laughing :D They said the tone in which he said was really funny. Anyways, i noticed that he doesn't use Ms. when he talks to them and i keep telling him he should address them as Ms.Jody or Ms.Nikki, but it is always back to square one! :-O

When Ashu heard this, he was ROFL. Every time i say something about AJ he enjoys listening to it so much. He also takes the daily report sheet out to see what he ate and how his day was. Such a good big bro :) This just reminded me of the time where both me and my brother studied in the same school and while walking back home he used to carry both our backpacks and give me his empty lunch bag to carry.
I guess the older child just gets it naturally :) And everytime AJ does something bratty B says that he can see how spoilt the younger ones can be, i strongly believe he is talking about me...

Day 6 : Universal Studios

For some reason i didnt remember a whole lot from my previous trips. I only remembered Shrek and Barney. First stop was Shrek 4D. As expected, it waas hilarious and Ashu was literally ROFL. AJ enjoyed it too, but was watching half the show without the glasses. When he wore the glasses he was trying to reach out for the things in the screen and almost hit the man in front of us and i saw it on time and saved his bald head :-)

Next stop, Jimmy Neutron. Sucked. I did not like it one bit and was feeling queasy. Ashu loved it...AJ - had a poker face and i could not tell anything.
We then went in search of terminator, but ended up having lunch and forgot about terminator and went and stood in line to take pics with Madagascar. Poor AJ ws so tired that he slept off just few seconds before the madagascar characters came :-(
We then went to the Pets show which was hilarious and AJ slept through it. There was one part i did not like in it though. They asked a little boy to come and help them with training a doggy and they said if you ask the dog to pick any piece of garment from the laundry basket he will bring the right one. The boy asked the dog to fetch a hat and then the doggy got the hat. The boy asked from something and the doggy got some underwear. The lady embarassed the boy by asking didyou ask this...The boy ws so embarassed. I thought it was so tacky and they didnt have to do that. But for that, the show was good.

We went to ET after that and after standing in line and when it was almost our turn there was tech. difficulties so we decided to come out and not wait there. AJ was up by then, so we took him to Barney and he was too happy. Loved all the songs and took pic with Barney and then played there for a while and then we went to the woody woodpecker's rollercoaster. I was glad i went there because when we went to Dollywood in sep, we went to the kiddie play area that looked soooo familiar and i was so confused because that was the first time i went to dollywood. I was kinda freaked out thinking it is some kind of Enakul oruvan dejavu type thing :D I had seen it in universal studios and forgotten about it. Dollywood had everything the same way..We went to the roller coaster and it's a really mini one and fun, /When we were standing in the line ashu started chickening out and i said i am gonna sit next to him and he thought i was comforting him. When we were near the gate and it was our turn next, i asked him if he knew why i was gonna sit next to him and told him that i'm so scared and i want to hold his hands. That pissed him off so much that he started accusing me that i got him into this mess..etc. etc. He was quite dramatic and i had a good laugh and i told him i was just kidding (thought that's not true)..B and AJ sat together and me and ashu sat behind them. I started screaming in few seconds and after few more seconds Ashu was screaming too. We both were non stop. It was fun, but kinda scary too. Ashu claims that he screamed for fun. After the ride when we got down AJ said, 'Mommy and Ashu screamed AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA' and the little dude enjoyed it thoroughly. So unlike me! After the ride me and ashu were laughing so much and then ashu said he wanted to go again, but the line was long, so we went to E.T again. The line was too long there too, but we still decided to go and AJ started troubling us, so i had to keep feeding him MnMs once in awhile..I think ET's fav was MnM too, if i remember correctly. ??
We then finally found the Terminator but the show was over. We still had time and we went aorund the whole U.S and Ashu wanted to go on shrek one more time, so we did that and this time AJ enjoyed more and was giggling and jumping just like ashu...and that's the end of our orlando trip..As soon as we left Univ. Ashu asked B when our next trip to orlando is going to be :) Oh btw, Ashu got us both Best parents award that looked like oscar. I was very happy and touched. I asked him why and he said that he loves us very much and it was his way of saying sorry for allthe trantrums and that he will stop throwing tantrums. That promise only lasted till next morning..Atleast i still got the award :)

Funny for the day :)

I have been posting ramayan about our Orlando trip that i missed lot of cute things they were doing. I forgot most of it..and ofcourse, this justifies why i need a blog in the first place..Hope i dont become like Ghajini and depend on this blog for everything :D

Coming back to the funny stuff. Whenever AJ troubled Ashu more than normal, Ashu used to call him bad boy. I told him that he should not say that and it will hurt Aj's feelings. So, the smart alec started calling him B boy and justified that AJ wont understand. But AJ does and we found that out long back and Ashu gave up on that!! I was singing a song yesterday and AJ said stop singing mommy. Hmmm..what an insult..just for fun, i said AJ B boy and retorted back saying AJ is G Boy :-O (Mean mommy needs that!! )

He had mild fever and with all the flu scare i wanted B to take him to the doctor as i had 3 meetings in the afternoon. B said that he was watching t.v in the waiting room and a little boy was playing guitar in it and he said G-Y-T-A-R guitar. On hearing that i clapped my hand and said yay AJ and Ashu said i was crazy to appreciate a wrong spelling :D

Day 5 : Hollywood Studios.

Big improvement on tantrums!! (Just being sarcastic here :-)) As soon as we left the room, AJ threw a tantrum because he wanted us to goto the 8th floor and not the lobby!! Another Prakasamana day :-) We reached Hollywood Studios and as soon as we entered we had a photo session with the disney photographers. Whether we had fun or not..idhellam vittu vaikkala ;-) It was quite funny because when the photographer said 1,2,3 AJ said GO and started running towards her!! The photos came really good though. The reason why i picked HW Studios for thursday was because i saw some info about a show Fantasmic that was scheduled on thursday. Wanted to see what it was. Anyways, we went to the starwars tour and got fast pass because it was CROWDED!! We went to a 3D movie that both of them enjoyed. Next i made the mistake of picking Honey i shrunk the kids. I thought it was a 4D movie and went inside. It was this huge playarea where all the things were blown out of proportion to make us look small. The kids got all over enthu and were running here and there. It was so hard to keep track of them. Finally i managed to spot them both and had to literally drag them out of there :-) Next we went to the stunt show. It was really interesting, but towards the end AJ started troubling a bit, so when they said that was the last 3 minute piece of the show we were out of there and that helped us avoid the mad rush. We then went to Pixar area, but the toystory ride was toooo crowded with a wait time of 120 minutes and fast passes were all out too. So, we went back to the Starwars ride and after standing in the line and just before entering the ride they said they wanted to measure AJ. The dude refused to stand straight and was doing all kinds of naatyam. The lady (strict military type) said she cant let him in if he would not let her measure..so i went to the exit asking B to take Ashu. I think i made a good decision because lot of people said it made them queasy. It wasn't too bad waiting outside either as it didnt take much time. We then went to playhouse disney and on the way grabbed some popcorn and juice and just before entering the show they said no food allowed inside and said i could fold the popcorn container and take it in though. As expected there was a tantrum there as he wanted to have the popcorn. He calmed down a bit whne the show started. Unfortunately for me, it was all little einsteins, pooh and handy manny, none of which aj watches regularly. He lost interest half way thro' and started troubling again. Oru vazhiya we came out after the show and i was so exhausted. We then took them to get pics with quincy and june and then mickey mouse. Oru eli-ku queue-la ninnu picture and autograph vaanginom!! If we saw the same eli in the house, we make sure it is dead!! Talk about double standard!! :-)

Fantasmic : One line - Out of the world. That was the first show where i didnt hear a peep out of AJ's mouth. He was stunned. He enjoyed it thoroughly. On the other hand, Ashu was talking non stop in his excitement. Guess i have to always listen to one or the other :) It was toooooooo good. I was glad that i read about it before we left. It was a laser show combined with some fireworks. Laser show was pure class. There was a part where they showed the disney characters inside bubbles and the bubbles looked soooo real. Classy show. I can go on and on..I can write a big post on this alone. When the show was over, i could see all the teeth in Ashu's mouth. He was soooo happy that he rated HS over MK. I would never do that though. MK is always no.1 for me

Day 4 - Kennedy Space Center

This was mainly for Ashu :-) First thing we did was, we went to the 3D show in IMAX about man landing in moon. After 5 mins,AJ asked me 'mommy can we go out' :D I told AJ that the doors are closed and we cant go out, so he kept quiet for sometime, but there was another 2 year old who started screaming and his mom opened the door and took him out and that was the end for me. He said, see we can open the door, let's go out. So, i took him out and was waiting outside. After showing him shamu and mickey minnie for 3 days it was no fun for him at KSC :-) So,most of the time i was sitting outside ..er..running behind him outside. Anyway, it was all literally rocket science for me too..so i was probably better off outside with AJ :D If ashu ever becomes an astronaut (that is his latest obsession) i will be like sulakshana of sindhu bairavi - asking kathrikkai enna velai :D I liked the non documentary parts though. I liked the observation center, but the shows put me to sleep :-O

Ashu was totally fascinated by KSC. He bought lot of books there and a remote controlled rocket. We bought some books for AJ too. He has been reading the backyardigans book everyday now. We also took a photo there where they did some jigina work and made it look like the kids were in space :-) Came out cute because AJ was looking elsewhere when they took the snap and when they did all the cut and paste it looked as if he was looking at Ashu.

Magic Kingdom

Day 3:
Magic kingdom sure has a magic touch to it. That place is filled with fun.
I can skip any park in orlando, but not this. We arrived at MK and there was a great improvement..AJ threw a tantrum as soon as we entered!! Kan minnadi rest of the day Pragasama therinjudhu ;-) We took the ferry to goto MK and for some reason he was ticked off as soon as we got into the ferry. He was screaming and crying and refused to answer when we asked why he was upset. After we got down, he didnt want to pose for photos for a while. He was grumpy and didnt want to talk to us. There was some musical on the mainstreet where some folks came in and danced to some christmasy songs. None of them were young, but they were acting like teenagers. It was weird! :-) That got AJ out of his grumpiness though. He still was not very cheerful. Then we went to the castle and B got us popcorn and a mickey mouse shape popsicle for him and that cheered him up. The next parade started and it was very nice. AJ got in the mood and was in full swing. Towards the end of the parade, they asked everyone to join the dance and there was donald and goofy near us and Ashu and AJ went to dance with them. AJ was literally like a Then kudicha nari. He had a blast. He kept pulling Donald duck and had a ball. Couple of times the security girl came in between donald and AJ, guess she wanted to protect the duck form the wild child :) After that he was all happy and kept talking about donald and koofy (yeah, that's how he calls Goofy :))

After the parade, we went to Fantasyland. We went to Winnie the pooh ride, which was very cute and the kids enjoyed it. Next stop was Peter Pan. It was way too crowded, but they liked it, so i guess it was worth the wait. We went to the philhar magic - 3D show and it was nice too, but like i said before, AJ did not wear the glasses for the most part. Ashu kept throwing his hands in the front trying to grab few things. It was funny :) AJ did that too once. He wore the glass and there was a pie in front of him and he got excited and reached out for the pie :)

It's a small world and Snow white was way too crowded, so we decided to do that later. We took the kids in the caroussel. When we were standing in line to go on the caroussel, the operator kept saying 'Are we ready?' each time before she started it and everytime AJ said 'Yes, i am re...ady' and did not understand why she didn't let him in. He got so mad at me and was screaming 'it's my turn mommy'. When i told him, 'see all the people waiting outside, we can go only after them' and he said 'see all the people inside?' :-) Finally, it was our turn and he was happy, but did not want to leave the carousel when it was over. He was holding it tight with both hands and i had to tickle him to let go of it :-) After that, we had lunch at pinnochio's restaurent. Pizza was really good. After that we went to Tomorrow land. Tomorrowland was mainly for him. He has kinda outgrown most of the fantasyland stuff. We watched a movie in the revolving theater. It was just okay, especially for AJ and he kept saying, let's go :) We also went to the buzz light ride and by then AJ started sleeping. He slept through the ride, but Ashu enjoyed it the most. I dont know what i did, i got 17500 points. God only knows how. Ashu and B got 22500 each. . B wait with AJ outside and we went to Monster's inc show. It was quite funny and Ashu enjoyed a lot (probably more than anything else because AJ was not there to trouble him :)) After monster's inc, he was done with tomorrowland. He was not intersted in rest of the rides and said we can go back to
fantasyland.

On our way, we went to the toontown. AJ was up by then and we went to the houses of mickey and minnie and then there was a long queue to take pics with mickey. We skipped that and went to goofy's rollercoaster. We stood in the line for almost 15 minutes and just before it was our turn, ashu chickened out and said let's get out of here!! Then there was donald's boat with some water leaking here and there and it was tough to get AJ out of there. When we came out, we went to Fantasy land and the lines were much shorter and we went to It's a small world. It was fantastic. I am seeing it for the third time, but felt like first :-) they made minor changes to it to suit the holiday season. Both Ashu and AJ loved it. Not a peep from AJ's mouth. Then, we went to Snowwhite and it was a little scary for them. When we came out AJ kept repeating the names of the dwarfs after me and everytime i said sneezy..he went ah..chooo :-) We went to dumbo ride and caroussel again as there was no wait time for that. We watched the parade and it was beautiful. Ashu loved it and AJ did not care at all. He was troubling me so much as he got bored with it. I was holding him in such a way that he could not scratch me or hit me because he was bored and wanted to get out of there..so that little dude was using his head and bumping me on my face and head. I was pretty sure that i was gonna lose some teeth. What a torture! All of a sudden, he started screaming for grapes when he saw green lights :-O As usual, i pulled a lollipop from my handbag and shut his mouth :-) Hope the disney trip does not give him any cavities!! After the parade, we had dinner and still had time, so we went back to the winnie the pooh ride once again and left the park. On our way out, we bought some cookies, juice and brownies at the mainstreet bakery and the cookie was out of the world. I tasted after we got into our car and was regretting for waiting till then. If i had tasted it then and there i would have a big box of cookies :-(

On our way back to the hotel AJ kept talking about his dance with donald and koofy and Ashu about Monsters inc.

Day 2 - SeaWorld

We reached Seaworld only around noon again because of some unexpected delays. First, we had breakfast at the restaurent in our hotel and they were sl....ooooo...w. :-( We also had to go buy a stroller for AJ as we forgot his stroller. His good stroller was broken long back thanks to AirFrance and he only has an umbrella stroller. So, we decided to buy a good one and assembling it took some more time..so we reached seaworld only around 11.30 and the park closing time was 6. As usual, it was crowded and we had to go early to get good seats for all the shows. We saw all that we wanted to. Shamu, Dolphin and Whale show and Sealion and Otter show. Both Ashu and AJ loved all of them. During and after the shamu show, AJ was chanting Shamu Shamu :)
We also sat in the soaking zone. We were in the second last row and when Shamu splashed the water on us, both Ashu and AJ got very excited. At that point, AJ fell in love with Shamu..He kept saying Shamu splash water, mommy. He sounded so happy whenver he said that. Ashu was excited too :-) He also bought this pendant that looks like shamu's tail :D

Ashu enjoyed the Sealion and otter show a lot. AJ liked it too and was laughing quite a bit. They both loved the dolphin show. Actually, i loved it the most. Just looking at a dolphin makes me happy..They are such happy creatures that spread happiness around. After the trip to seaworld, AJ started putting two straws in his mouth sporting the otter look :) He is so much in love with Shamu too that he bought a shamu stuffed toy and was dancing with it :D

We also went to Shamu's happy harbor and the kids went on some rides there. We took some good pictures at the Kodak's picture spot. We skipped Manta, Atlantis and the other scary ride Kraken. We missed Pets Ahoy because the show was full :-( Kids loved the stingray lagoon. It was tough to drag AJ out of that area. He kept running back to touch the stingrays. So unlike me..I went nowhere near it and was just happy to be the photographer ;-) We also went to the Polar Express Experience. We had to take the walking one as AJ was small for the Train motion. So, it was basically just sit and watch the movie clipping and then we walked into the north pole through a nicely decorated area (that reminded us of the Polar Express movie) and met santa. We also saw some dolphins inside and then a polar bear. It is always exciting to see a polar bear. We also saw whales. Kids were very excited to see the whales :) Every time a whale went away from the glass and AJ could not see it he said fishy went to eat mummu (food) :)

Trip to Orlando - Day 1 Animal Kingdom

Just got back from orlando last night after a week long trip. It was fun and hectic. Ashu enjoyed the most and AJ enjoyed a lot, but i think he would enjoy more when he's over 4. It was quite crowded compared to our previous trip in Sep 05. We went during the last week of September and we did not have to wait in line for any rides. We covered what we wanted and were done before the park closing time, but this time it was a different story. I wrongly assumed that there wont be any crowd as people would want to be with family during thanksgiving. We had to wait in line for almost every ride and some rides, the wait time was close to 1hr!! :-O

This trip was a totally unplanned trip, so we did not have time to book flight tickets and decided to drive down. It was close to 11 hrs drive from our place to orlando with couple of short breaks. We actually drove for 9 hrs and stayed in a hotel near Valdosta and then got up next morning and went to Orlando. Our initial plan was to just relax on sunday and then goto Magic Kingdom on Monday. We were planning to cover 4 parks (Magic kingdom, Hollywood studios, Universal and Sea World) and then goto Kennedy Space Center on Friday and return home on saturday. Since we had only 5 days excluding sunday which we didn't consider as we took a break on Saturday, i decided to skip Animal Kingdom as i thought AJ would enjoy all the others more and to compensate for AK, we could always go to some Zoo..But, deep inside i was feeling guilty as we had taken Ashu to AK during our previous trip. Guess B read my mind and said let's goto AK on Sunday even if we are late. So, we reached AK around noon after having brunch and the park was open till 8 anyways. We could not cover everything, but covered what would interest the kids. We went on the Safari which both enjoyed and then went on the train and then went to camp mickie minnie and watched the Lion King Show. AJ didnt enjoy it much. It was for bigger kids, i would say. We missed the finding nemo and it's tough to be bug as we had to wait in line for everything. Finding nemo musical is new, so i have no idea about it. AJ probably would not have enjoyed the bug show as it was one of those 4D shows and he removed his glasses and was watching it with no effects anyways, in the other 4D shows that we went to :) We took pics with Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore and the kids were very excited about it. We also went to the Dinoland and that's another place where they enjoyed a lot. There was a ride called Triceratops spin and i didn't see the ride name and said, AJ look at the rhino ride (they looked like rhino to me :-O) and AJ immediately corrected me saying those are the Triceratops (thanks to the Dinosaur train show). B and Ashu gave me a sarcastic look. Whatever!! I dont need to know about dinosaurs at this age..They are extinct anyways :P There were two more rides that we couldn't go as AJ was not tall enough. I asked B to take Ashu on one called the Primeval Whirl and that ticked AJ off and he started with a huge tantrum, but i had lollipops in my bag and gave one immediately and calmed him down :) He was okay after that. Ashu came and said the ride was scary and decided to skip the other ride (Dinosaur ride). After that, we just walked through Asia and i saw this tea shop called Anandpur and was so excited and they even had Masala chai. It was just the masala chai tea bags that they used and it sucked. Nothing else was Anandpur-ish..They just had the regular American cookies and stuff. We were out by 8pm and went to Woodlands and had a good dinner and ended the day happily :D

Ashu's Report Card and AJ's timeout

Yesterday, i put Clifford DVD for ajay to feed him his dinner. That DVD has several episodes, so i usually let him watch one episode even if he's done eating before that and then i turn it off. Yday, before i turned it off the second episode started and he got so angry and came towards me and hit me on my back. He was quite furious and i told him AJ we do not hit others. He said that back and i asked him to stand in the corner facing the wall for timeout and to my suprise, he did that. So finally, he started understanding the concept of timeout. Teehee. But, the downside was he was enjoying it. He was giggling and standing, facing the wall!! It just reminded me of my study hols during school days, where i used to sit gazing at the cieling with the text book in my hand and my dad used to ask me if i was watching chitrahaar or oliyum oliyum on the cieling! Maybe, AJ was thinking about the rest of the episode and picturizing it in the wall :D

Ashu got his second report card for this semester. He got all Es (including music and PE) except one. He got G in English (writing) and i bet it was because of the missing punctuations. The dude cannot put a period at the end of each sentence.
He also had to write a book report yday on Morgan le fay and they asked him to read about her in Wiki. Lib didn't have any books on her i guess. I was shocked when i read about her..I was thankful i read about her before letting him read. So, i just took some notes (at a kid level) and asked him to read that and write the report :) Wiki was talking some grown up stuff that i would not want a child to read :-O

Ashu was happy because they only wanted a short report this time (compared to the 4 pages he wrote last week!) The teacher told him, it's only 1/2 page she wants from everyone and 1 page from him because he writes big :D

Yesterday, i made cheppankizhangu (arvi) roast. Ashu loved it adn kept asking for more. So, i told him that he should always have open mind and try whatever i cook because the previous time i made it, he threw a huge fit that i didnt make roast potatos and refused to touch it. I dont make it often as we dont get arvi most of the times. I guess that's one of the reasons that it looked new to him. He said that he has never seen arvi and that i must be imagining things!! Sometimes i wonder who the parent is!!

Sweet Sensitive Ashu

AJ is crazy about stickers. Ashu was too,but ashu used to preserve them in a sticker book that i got him. AJ goes around the house sticking it everywhere and is not very particular about sharing. Couple of days back he did something good and i gave him a sticker for that. He asked for more, as usual. I said, no AJ from today you get only one sticker per good choice. He said, no mommy give me one more for Ashu. I almost fell off the chair, because he never shares his stickers with anyone. I gave him and he went inside and gave it to Ashu. Few minutes after that i was hearing a ruckus and Ashu came to the kitchen and asked me if there is anything in the living room that he can keep forever. I didnt understand what or why he was asking that. I said, i dont know, go finish your book..and he came back again and asked is there anything in the bedroom that he can keep forever. I got confused and mad at this point and said why are you asking this and why are you not finishing the book. He said, mommy ajay gave me this sticker and i want to stick it to something i will keep forever so i wont lose the sticker also. I had tears in my eyes. I asked him to stick it to the photo frame i got for B, for his first father's day.

Oh from that day, everytime i give a sticker to AJ, he asks for one more and gives it to ashu. but, the first sticker is safe in the photo frame :)

Wedding Anniversary and Travelling with kids

Our wedding anniversary. I was way too happy that it was a sunday. We did the usual routine of going to the temple, having lunch, shopping, having dinner and got back home. Surprisingly the kids were good. Didnt trouble much and ate good. When i did my shopping, AJ started running around, so B said he will take care of them and took them to the children's area and i did a peaceful shopping. But somehow i felt so nervous like i was taking an exam!! That didnt affect my shopping though ;-)

On our way back, i asked Ashu to sing a song and he sang the songs that his class sang for the Veteran's day and he was very good. I was happy because i had only tried teaching him some devotional and filmi songs and he was horrible and i came to conclusion that he can't sing :) I guess he was concentrating on the words and left the tune up in the air! In the end, he neither got the tune nor the words right! So, western it is, for Ashu.
Now AJ is on a singing strike, thanks to my mom and others who keep asking him to sing everytime i call. Nowadays, he says 'No, i dont want to sing' as soon as he sees the phone.

I dont like having DVD player in the car. I think if we have dvd player in our car, the kids will just watch movie and not talk to you and i dont like that.
I think that they need to look outside and observe the world..
Sometimes though, i seriously think about going for the DVD player because Ashu can talk non-stop. I mean NONSTOP. Even if you ask him to be quiet for sometime. He will go.. do you really want me to be quiet? for how many minutes? is it time already? Can i talk now? Can i just say one thing? or the most annoying 'Are we there yet?' and it goes on...

Anyways, when we go on long drives, i have to do different things to keep them quiet. They listen to story cd for sometime, music sometime, fight with each other for sometime..and then talk to us for sometime. Ashu talks AJ mimics. When AJ falls asleep, Ashu gets bored and starts troubling me. So, I play a game with Ashu. When i spy a word on the way, i spell it and he has to find the word and when he gets bored with that, i give a word and ask him to spell it. Since AJ was awake when we were playing that, i gave him turns and was spelling small words and he got them all right. Actually, he even found a big word. When i spelt T-E-N-N-E-S-S-E-E, he said Tennessee within a fraction of a second! :)

There is this story CD that Ashu had when he was 2. I took it back into the car and it has few stories and the first story is Hansel and Gretel. The stories in the CD are narrated by witches. The first story goes like this..I am Quindella boogafina mud wiggle, the wicked witch..and then she goes on narrating the story. AJ listened to it few times but i never thought he enjoyed it, as there was no reaction to it. When we went to Atlanta couple of months back, i put it on when the kids started getting restless and before the cd turned on, AJ said I am Quindella boogafina the wicked witch...stop living in the past. Ashu thought it was too funny and now doesnt complain that he has to listen to the baby cd :) This is the guy who watches wonderpets and wordworld with AJ and then says he watches it because AJ likes it ;-) If i let him, he would even watch Teletubbies :D

Weekend update

We had some guests for dinner on saturday. Had a great time. Ashu enjoyed the most with his friends :) Ashu and his friends pretty much ignored AJ though. So, AJ was little upset, but i kept him entertained with Wiggles. I was mad at Ashu for ignoring him though.
Ashu is a loving and caring brother in general and is really good about sharing. He is usually all over AJ when they are alone, but the moment he sees his friends, AJ becomes a pest in his eyes. AJ troubles quite a bit, but i still think that he should not be ignored like that. Need to work on that with Ashu.

I pretty much spent the whole day in kitchen on saturday, so no cooking day for me yesterday. I slept for the most part of the day and then watched 'What's your Raashee'. Movie was just okay..with a bad ending. It was happy ending, but not a convincing one. It felt like the movie was taking forever to finish inspite of us fast-forwarding all the songs. Btw, there were probably 10 songs i would say..and i kept falling asleep too :-) anyways, aj got bored in between and came and demanded taht he wants to play wii.It was quite funny that a 2 yo wanted to play wii :-) After the movie, i created a profile for aj and when i entered his birthdate it changed the mii into a baby, which was quite funny. then it said he's too young to do anything there..Poor dude didnt understand what was going on and was demanding penguin slide and i let him use my mii and dude was quite happy. He didnt trouble ashu when it was his turn. That was quite a surprise.

Ashu had some homework. He had to read a book and answer some questions. Not a book report like earlier. I read the book and it was quite neat. It's called The stories Julian tells. I have started loving the books Ashu brings from school and have asked him to write his views on the books in his blog :) Let's see how that goes since he's lazy to type and wants me to be his secretary...

Book Report

Like i said earlier in this post, Ms.O had given a book report for the book club. It was on American Hero. Ashu had picked Thomas Alva Edison. I put dinosaur train for Aj and started cooking and asked Ashu to work on his book report. When i said 'Work on it'..i actually meant 'Start reading the book and i'll come join you'..but the kid had already read the book once at school, so wrote a one page report in that time. I was quite impressed. He did a good job, but he only covered the earlier part of his life. Then, i sat with him and told him that he should note down important points in the book and then form sentences over it and write a complete report. I wrote down the highlights and he completed it. While doing this, i thoroughly enjoyed reading about Edison and his inventions too. I dont remember if i learnt all about him when i was in school..all i could remember was the light bulb :-O
Guess mommy's learning with the kids..Better late than never! :D

Yday i took a day off since i was not feeling well. Didn't send Aj to daycare either. He was pretty good. didn't trouble me but i ended up taking two long calls (work related) and had to reply to few mails..so effectively i got only 1/2 day off :( Anyways, in the evening when i woke him and said it's time to pick up Ashu he was so happy and said i'm so happy to see ashu..As soon as we came home he started fighting with Ashu for silly things. I guess he didnt complete the sentence earlier.. 'I'm so happy to see ashu so i can fight with him and have real fun unlike spending a boring uneventful day with mommy' :-)

I let him do step aerobics on wii since he wanted to do and he was obviously doing it all wrong and he still managed to get some perfects and oks :D

Happy Happy updates :)

B had to leave at 6.30 today (M-W this week), so it's gonna be a hectic week for me..but am a pro now. We actually reached school 10 mins early..Since i was early i took this opportunity to talk to Ms.O about Ashu's progress and she was all praises for him. When i said hi to her and casually asked how Ashu is doing, she said he's doing great and said let's go out and talk. I was thinking 'uh oh!! am i inviting trouble here' and once we went out she started saying that since he's advanced she has put him in a book club and is sending for advanced math with Ms.S. She said there are about 6 kids in his class that are doing great and she wants them to give more challenging work. I felt soooo happy. I had a tough time with his 1st grade teacher. She never understood that Ashu got in trouble by talking because he finished his work earlier and was bored. She was also not open to suggestions. Ms.O seems to be wonderful and very understanding. I asked her if she has any concerns with his writing since he makes lot of silly mistakes with spellings and punctuations and she said, "Oh! he's just in a hurry. I know that because when i ask him to point out the mistakes he does that and says what is wrong. I am not concerned..It could just be a boy thing, u know'. Ms.O sounds so much like Ms.H (His KG Teacher). Very motherly and affectionate. I walked out happy thinking my kid is in good hands :-)

Next round Aj's school. When i dropped him and came out i bumped into Ms.Allison from Orange room (toddler room) and she said that on friday the kids were playing at the fellowship hall and she pointed to a radio and asked Aj what it was and he said Radio, so she asked him to spell it and he said RDO. She taught him to spell radio just twice and left. On monday, when he saw her he said RADIO :) He remembered it over the weekend and told her. She was pretty impressed. She said he threw in the phonics too..like R says RRRR when he started spelling :-)

The little piggies went wii wii wii ;-)

B and ashu finally managed to talk me into buying Wii :-O They had to throw in the wii fit plus though ;-)
I was not too happy or excited when it arrived on friday, but ashu was in cloud nine:-) Even Aj who has no clue was excited :D B got it ready for ashu and ashu was playing and within 10 minutes i was hearing "no aj no aj..stop!!!" on top of his voice :D Did not like the direction it was going in..and was actually mad. Friday evenings are not the best to test my mood..Saturday we went to a nashville temple as it was B's star birthday and then we went to a halloween party at a friend's place. Had a blast. Kids were having lot of fun. Even we went in costumes..B was presley and i was from hawaii ;-) Kids were playing rockband in nintendo and ajay wanted to play too..they were nice and let him play in the drums for couple of times, but he refused to give it back..so had a tough time with him. After we came home, in the middle of the night, he started kicking me in his sleep and was screaming 'i want the guitar, i want the drums'. It was funny :D

Sunday started with normal routine..cooking cleaning..etc and kids were playing and fighting and having fun and then in the evening Ashu and B started playing Wii when aj took a nap and by then i was done with most of my work and they made the mistake of introducing the wii to me and i'm completely hooked on it now :D Love the step aerobics and after sometime ashu started begging me to give it back to him.If you bribe someone to get something..this is what happens, u know? :) When i gave it, aj woke up and ashu was MAD. I then took aj and introduced the mickey mouse toddler cd and he loved it and was quiet and did not disturb ashu for next 20 minutes.Whew!!

I have talked a lot about Ashwinism..I should start Ajism too..He has started saying lot of cute things now..

Some of them are :

Phew! That was close!
Stop singing Ashwin (Whenever ashu tries to sing something..Poor ashu! )
When i drop him in daycare he asks for n number of hugs and n varies from 3 to 30 so far..and after i give him that many hugs he says I love that :D
Y'day, i was in the restroom and he knew that as he was playing outside the restroom when i went in. When i came out he said 'Whew! You scared me there!!'

Now his favorite quote is 'Trick or Treat!' (he says chicka teet) When we came home after all the trick or treating..I hid all the candies and put only good stuff like fruit chews, quaker bars and pretzels in his basket. He woke up from his nap and went and inspected the basket and walked away without taking a thing..!!!

My Spooktalur babies :-)

Nothing spooky about their costumes, alright? :) One is ninja, one is a cute puppy..and mommy thinks they both look spooktacularly cute in their costumes :D

September - December, life gets hectic with tooo many things lining up. First Krishna Jayanthi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navarathiri and then comes Diwali, B's birthday and Halloween.Atleast september it is just us at home..so it's kinda okay..But, From october the school starts squeezing in work...First it's the halloween/fall harvest party at both schools and they always pick different dates just to make it more hectic :-) Then, in november it's the the thanksgiving party and the weeks before that they have themes related to thanksgiving and give us projects and then comes the Christmas spirit. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love this season and love the festivity but sometimes it gets too much and office work is coincidentally hectic too..This week i had to run to the stores three times to get halloween costumes. First, i went on monday after picking up Aj. As soon as we entered the store aj saw the candy bags and balloons and the baby who was an angel till that time disappeared and the terrible twos showed up..I came back faster than i went in..I came home, had some tea to clear my mind and then took ashu to the store leaving aj with daddy. So, we went and searched and searched and the costumes sucked pretty much. Ashu wanted Harry Potter. They had the costume but no accessories. It sucked and Ashu said he would be red ninja instead as he didnt want harry potter costume without a wand and i totally agreed with him. Then came the toughest part. No cute costumes for 2 year old boy..i finally found a batman costume that was really cute and i bought it and came home. Aj took one look and said no. How merciless!! At this point i was at the verge of crying. B was sooo casual and said let him go without a costume, if he doesn't want it. I couldn't take it that light. I kept thinking that aj will be the only kid in the class without a costume and maybe he will realize on that day and become sad..so i tried again and went and got a puppy costume the next day. I made sure that it does not touch his neck, cover his eyes etc. Basically, i just made sure that it was a non-irritating costume for a 2 year old and aj took one look at it and said nah. Geez!! there was nothing else available and i decided to send him in Ashu's old costume - a 'not so cute' frog costume that he had picked when he was 2. That's another story that needs a separate post :) But yday, he cooperated and wore that puppy costume and he was really the cutest puppy :-) Every teacher asked me if they could trade him for their real puppy :-)

So, things were surprisingly going well. I got to go to the halloween party since a meeting got cancelled and i was all happy happy and after the party inside the class, it was time to go for 'trick or treat'...actually it was trunk or treat this year, where some volunteer parents decorated their car trunks with halloween decor and were waiting with candies for the kids. Aj didnt realize that it was gonna get this good and was initially troubling to stay in line and walk with his friends. He wanted to walk with me and run around..and once he realized he was getting all the goodies he followed Ms.Cathy and got all the goodies, then we went to the pumpkin patch and he started playing there without picking a pumpkin..then i cheated and picked one and got him out as it was getting late and the other class was ready to come in. We went into the class and the terrible two showed up again. He didnt want to leave the candy basket outside the class. He wanted to attack it then and there..Ms.Cathy made all the children sit in one place and gave a small treat. It was just pretzels, but in a fancy halloween pack.So the kids kinda mellowed down and i just flew out at the first opportunity that i got before the terrible two showed up again :-)

Today was Ashu's party, but i didn't have to go there as i didn't see any invite for the parents..I missed seeing his classmates in costumes though :-( I was good and sent the 2ltr coke already yday. Didnt want any embarassment as i'm capable of forgetting things at the last minute! That was what was assigned to us for the party. Ashu wore the ninja costume and was asking me if Ninja was bad and scary and i said i have no idea and told him that he should know better since he picked it and Ashu said he doesnt have a clue about ninja. I couldn't believe he would pick a costume that was not familiar at all. I know that we dont watch ninja at home and he has not watched at school either, but i thought his friends must've enlightened him since he was very particular about Red ninja and i asked him if he liked red ninja over the others and he said yes. Anyways, he was green ninja last year and they didnt say anything at school and i said so they should be okay with red one this year :-) If you ask me why we picked green ninja last year when we have no clue about it, it was because this green ninja had a turtle shell n he got all fascinated and picked it. I knew the reason better at that time :-) This year i didn't ask too many questions because i was dead tired. I vaguely remember watching the teenage mutant ninja turtle with my cousin, but cant remember any details :-( The mommy brains, u see.. :)
Anyways, back to the halloween story here..Yday, AJ came home with his loot and he was soooo happy thinking that i am going to let him eat all those candies. HAHA..love the innocence of the kids :D I gave them both couple of candies and hid the basket. He was really P'd off with me :-) Whatever!! ...this is just one more feather to my bad mommy cap :D

Ashu went to school in his costume. Was looking very cute and i'm sure he wont be too happy to see the word cute here..so let me rephrase and say was looking very handsome..he doesnt know he will always be cute to me, even at the age of 40, if i live that long :-) He was pretty happy with his costume and when he left aj told him 'Bring lot of candies, Ashu!' Yeah right!! :D Ashu's class also had pizza party today since his class won the cookie dough sale..
He came home with his loot and ...i lost self control and ate more candies than them. Well, atleast i ate when no one was watching, so i didnt set a bad example :-)

We have another halloween party tomorrow!! Sigh!!!

Autumn Acres..

I wanted separate posts for Ashu and Aj as they deserve it and this is a fun update...

Autumn Acres

Oct 24 : We went to Autumn Acres, a place near cookeville. Usually, @ Ashu's school they take the kids there once a year. I thought it was just a pumpkin patch with some swings and slides as that's all Ashu talked about. This time i saw the hoarding and checked their website and it sounded pretty interesting. So, we decided to go there and coincidentally they didnt make that trip this year at Parkview. We invited Atharva and Shiodas to join us. It was sooo cold and we were shivering, but the kids were fine as they were running around. The place had more than what i expected. They had corn maze, which was pretty neat. They gave clues like Scavenger hunt and as you find the things on the list you are on the right direction to come out of the maze. Ashu and Atharva were enjoying it and finding all the clues and AJ acted as if he found everything and was walking around like it was a piece of cake for him. I liked it because this was the first time i was in a corn farm and it was amazing to see it :)
It was the opposite of pattikaatan mittai kadaya paakardhu..I grew up in chennai and this was all new to me..so it was like 'pattanathan vayakaatai paatha maari' :D

After that the kids were playing in the swings and slides for a while. Aj loved it too. After that the kids went to the petting zoo and looked at bunnies, goats, pigs..etc. Aj started talking to the goats and it was really hilarious. He tried to pull their mouths and we had to keep him at a distance :) After that the kids went to the mega bouncing pillow and both ashu and atharva had a blast. first AJ stayed away and after seeing ashu he went in and it was hilarious. All the people who were watching their kids literally rolled on the floor laughing looking at AJ's reactions..First it was difficult for him to climb on it as the kids were jumping and the pillow was bouncy..somehow he managed and climbed and then when he sat down, he started moving down due to the vibration and he was mad and scolding everyone in gibberish. Too funny..i dont think i have explained it well. but, he kept going back and had fun and enteratained the rest of us :D

After that Ashu and Atharva went for the corn canon and AJ being small was not allowed. Corn canon is like a gun where they put corn and you have to shoot the target with the corn. It was fun too..Instead of that AJ got to ride in the barrel train and when he went he was the only kid his age and he went solo..Raja mariyadhai dhaan. After this, we went on the hayride and the kids went into the pumpkin patch and got pumpkins and we were back..Ellam adichu potta maari thoongithu because of all the aatam and cold weather..

I'm impressed

I was playing a game with aj where i'd spell sumthin wrong n he kept correcting me...like...
Me : I can spell Apple B..A..L..L
Aj : Hehe mommy, Apple is A..P..P..L..E
Me : Dog C..A..T
Aj hehe D..O..G
So, i thought let me make it complicated and said
I can spell Elephant E..G..G and he goes Elephant E..L..F..A..NT (nt together) and i was floored.
Don't you think he's good? :-) and i tried Dinosaur and he said D..I...N..I..S..I..R :D
The funniest part was he was standing like those spelling bee champs and writing in the air while spelling ;-)

Proud Parents

Ashu's report card came last friday and he got all E's including Music and one G in Physical Ed. He had scored 92 and was close to E we are extra proud :-)

They also did STAR test and he evaluated at 6th grade level in both reading and comprehension :DDD You can see all 32 in my mouth (according to B!) According to me, this is the best gift B got 4 his bday :) (What a way to cover the fact that i didnt get him a good gift! hehe)

October update

Oct 20 - Left top molar..Finally!! :)

Oct 14
-----------
Had 32 month evaluation at Aj's school. I had to fill out the form by testing aj with whatever they had mentioned. Dude was 100% on everything except fine motor skills..but, that's my fault because i dont let him dress himself up or i dont give him fork to feed himself. But, he was still on the above average for those and teacher said there are no concerns with his growth. Before and during the evaluation, Ms. Cathy really sodhichufied my porumai. First of all, i went during the lunch break so i dont have to take time off..She made me wait for 15-20 minutes saying that she's going to the restroom and then she was searching for the papers..Finally, she was talking a lot during the evaluation..Romba sodhichuttaa..and she gave me a ottai pen that leaked on my beautiful pink top and sweater..I doubt that the stain can be removed. GRRRRRR! Anyways, after the evaluation i was thinking that i should start working on making the kids a little independent. I should let go of the indian over protective motherly way and start working on few things - first on the list is - to teach Ashu to brush his teeth and take bath under my supervision and to teach aj to eat by himself. And for me...i should learn to ignore unwanted comments about my parenting!!

Oct 17
B returned from SFO only yday and this morning he woke up early (not because it was diwali!!) and went to run in marathon for the race for cure. A charity event for Cancer patients. Since it was 4 a good cause i mannichufied him for committing to it on Diwali..Marathon odittu vandhu aal 2 hours-kku gaali..that's another story :D Idhukku dhaan he should've listened to ashu's advice..Ashu saw the map and saw that the marathon was for 4 miles and he decided that B cannot run 4 miles and told him that he should run 1/4th of the distance and take a turn when no one's watching and run backwards and reach the final line and that way he can win :D B was mad at him...haha.. I got a beautiful scarf from that event. B odinadhukku enakku prize! :D Anyways, he was gone for more than 3 hours..and i had to deal with the boys!! Rendayum ezhuppi nalangu ittu Ganga snanam panna vekkardhukkulla...SSSSABBBBBBBA Kanna kattiduthu!! :-O Adhukkapram..getting ashu ready was easy. i dressed ashu and aj in similar kurtas. Ashu was good an cooperated..Aj was grumpy the whole time he was in kurta. He REFUSED to smile :-( He also told me he does not want Indian Costume!! :-( We had diwali party at Swapnil's house on diwali evening. Kids had a blast with fireworks..I know ashu is not scared and this is the first time for aj and he was too casual about it!! I was watching from upstairs and all the dads were with the kids and enjoying the fireworks..this little dude just went and lit the sparkler himself and nobody was watching..i panicked and yelled and screamed and B and another friend noticed at that time and guess what they did..instead of pulling him away, they went and lit their sparklers from his!! Men!!! They are certainly from MARS!! I recorded Padikadhavan and watched it next day..SO..SO..idhukku ivlo build up! Some of the jokes were really good though :-)

Oct 20

You know how they say you have to watch what you say in front of your kids? I learnt my lesson today..I use the word non-sense quite a bit.. I dont want this nonsense explanation..What nonsense? Why didn't y ou finish the lunch? ..blah blah... Today,i made nan-wich for ashu and packed the rest of the naan in the cover and sealed it with bag clip. Aj was watching the whole scene and asked me 'Have you seen the bag clip?' and I said, Aj i just put it on the naan bag and you saw it..and He said ' What nonsense naan bag is that mommy?' : -O He imitates Ms.Cathy a lot too..He just smacks Ashu for no reason and like a big yogiya sigamani he will tell himself..We do not hit our friends!! If i think of it..maybe he's saying 'we do not hit our friends..but brother is okay?' :-O Ashu's fall break is over..He went to Victory for the break. They were supposed to take to some movie and there was controversial review for it so the cancelled it and had a movie at victory itself..and a pizza party. He said he was hoping for Monsters Vs Aliens but they showed some other movie ( Doghouse...or something like that!)

Oct 23 :

Big B's birthday :-) Kids gave him a card and i gave him two cards. We got him couple of t.shirts :-) Aj kept singing happy birthday daddy all day. For Ashu's birthday, he kept singing happy birthday aj and also made Bro and jan sing for him too..ippo daddy-kku dharalama he sang. Ashu-oda enna potti? :D I made Diamond sweet (kaju burfi) and it vanished in one day...Got a 'Super yum' certificate from both Ashu and B..Aj ate it..so i assume it was yum for him too.

And today (Oct 25) :

Today was Aj's first play date!! I was soooo tensed to send him, but Pushpa kept reassuring me that she will take good care of him and i finally did it. He went there and spent 4 hours at their house without troubling them or crying for me :-) They said he was too good. Ofcourse, Ashu went with him, and they said Ashu took good care of aj too. What a good boy! It was Amit's birthday party and since Ganga's mom passed away this year, they kept it low profile and invited only kids and both kids did fine there. They came back with nalla per that they both were very well behaved and well mannered :-)

Looks like Aj was the center of attention for all the kids. Pushpa said everybody started writing words and asked him to read and he read all of them and kids were all excited and kept doing that!! Thanks to Ritu :)

September Update

Romba surusuruppo? :D

AJ's Aksharabyasam and Navaratri 09

We did aj's aksharabyasam today since it was Vijayadasami. We got a slot for the ceremony after lot of nagging by me =o) The priest said that there were lot of poojas booked for that day and he said if we were there sharp at 9 he will do it for us. I immediately checked the calendar to make sure it was no ragukalam or emakandam and it was just fine. He gave a huge list of things to bring, as usual. Inspite of being super prepared from saturday night, i forgot the flowers and realized only when we were near the temple and it was 8.52. B said we can still manage and went to the nearest Kroger and we reached temple at 9.15 :-O The priest was quite forgiving and didnt ask us anything. teehee. He asked us set everything up on the trays and plates and started the pooja. In the middle of the pooja, i saw a small hand reaching the fruits tray sneakily. It was aj's. He removed a banana and started eating right there :-) Poor dude can't resist bananas.
After finishing the banana he gave the peels to ashu and wiped his hand in my pattu saree. Grrr. After that the priest asked B to hold his hand and write Om, Sri, Om namashivaya in arisi. He wrote without any fuss. He was later asked to gift a pen, pencil and notebook to 5 kids. only one kid was tehre. He gave it to her and the priest said he will give it to the kids who come in the evening. I remembered that coincidentally i gave all the kids who came for saraswathy pooja, a book or a pencil set. so was happy with that :-)

During Navarathri, B and I had to goto nashville office alternatively..and i could not invite any one for vethala paaku during weekdays and i ended up inviting them on sunday. Sunday being Saraswathy pooja, it turned out to be very hectic...Whole morning went in prepaing for the pooja and cooking the feast. Afternoon was cleaning time + preparing sundal (i made a huuuuuge batch!! ) and palgova for the guests and then wrapping their gifts. This time i bought cute sandwich spreader sets for the ladies and books and mech. pencil sets for the kids. Manisha and Pushpa came together with their kids and they were the last to come and by that time i was pretty relaxed and Ashu was eagerly waiting for atharva too..so they both started playing immediately, ignoring Ritu. I got so mad and asked them to include her and Ritu said..don't worry, i dont want to play with them. I asked her why and she said 'Hmmph Boys' ROFL :D She decided to play with aj and i went back to my chitchat session with Manisha and Pushpa..After few minutes she came running to us screaming in delight that 'Aj can read' :D She told Pushpa..mommy i wrote several words and he read all of them and did not miss a single thing. Then pushpa asked me to record it and i did..I was talking to them and recording and shook the camera so bad that when i played again i decided that i should keep my day job :D

Potty training Saga :

Ashu was soo easy to train and was trained in few days. I can't get away easily second time, can i? :) Aj was doing good but has reverted back. He hates potty chair now :O He cries if i ask him to goto the restroom and he even says 'He is a baby and he needs to go in diapers' :D :-( (Azhudhunde sirikkaren..Shivaji maari ;-))
Anyway, i'm going to give it a break for 2 or 3 weeks and start again. Btw, when he's in a good mood, he says he is a big boy and he will go only in potty chair and Ashu is a baby and needs diaper. Ashu gets MAD at him :D After all this drama, when the time comes he says and does the opposite. One of my colleagues said that some kids (especially the ones that goto day care will take a long time..so i have to mentally prepare me for that !! :)) I dont have the strenght either to deal with tantrums, with all the neck pain and hand pain..

Eye doctor visit : Ssssss habba kanna (no pun intended) kattudhe...

Boy did he trouble us or what? The Lions club did a test in daycare and said he has some issues with his eyes and may need glasses. First of all i was panicking thinking what could be wrong with his eyes? Did i do something wrong when i was pregnant or when he was an infant..etc..This came to my mind because i did not eat good during my pregnancy thanks to nausea and aj was a big picky eater (still is) when he started with solids..The second thought that shot my bp up was the thought of making him wear glasses. There was no way on earth he would keep the glasses on his face. With all these thoughts we took an appointment with Vanderbilt eyecenter and took him there. Anga pona he troubled so much and refused to sit in the chair to read the letters. He kept running towards the monitor. So they said they have to dilate his eyes and test it since he was not cooperating. After all the drama, his eyes were dilated and 4 of us held him and the doctor checked and said he was fine and there probably was an error in reading because he did not cooperate at that time, which was very likely. So, when we left he kept a very samathu face and said Hi doctor Bye doctor. The Hi doctor was because he thought he was Hi doctor and not Eye doctor!!

Happy Birthday Ashu kutty!

30-Aug-2009 :

The day started with me and B waking Ashu up by singing Happy Birthday to you...On hearing that Aj got so excited and woke up too...but, when he heard the 3rd line go Happy Birthday dear Ashu..he got so mad at us and gave us dharma adi till we sang happy birthday aj kutty too :) That made Ashu laugh so much. What a good way to start! He also got calls from mama, mami and athai. When radhika called we could not hear her at all. He asked who was it after he hung up saying thanks for the wishes. I said athai and he said no wonder i could not hear her. I asked him what he meant by that and he said it must be srinithi who was making all the noise that i could barely hear athai :) Later, when i called mil i came to know that they were at some kids play place and poor Srinithi had to take the blame! :D When Jan sang happy birthday ashu, aj got upset again and made her sing for him too. Gau sang too and that made aj very happy :) Gau actually recited bhagavad gita for us too. It was very sweet..
After that we called vasanthi paati, kollu paati (or kokku paati as ashu wud say) and rajam paati and got their well wishes. Talked to appu mama's family too. Karthik sent his wishes too. After all the wishing part, we had a mini celeb. A tiny cars cake for ashu and just to have the cake this time aj agreed to sing for ashu :) After singing, aj started digging in before anyone else said anything :) It was presents time and ashu was sooooo surprised to get monsters and aliens from us for DS. He also got math cd and i dont think he was very excited about it. He also got a book set and jumpstart explorer cd. Aj got doctor set, abc cd and a book too. He loved the doctor set.
We then went to woodlands for a heavy lunch. We ate like pigs and they also had ashu's fav. gulab jamuns and my fav. ragda patties..I was not sure if we could walk in the zoo...but we walked so much that i bet all the calories were burned off! :D Ashu enjoyed the visit to the zoo and aj didnt care about the animals and was more interested in reading the signs and kuppai porukking. that made ashu very mad at aj. At the end we went to a place called jungle gym inside the zoo. It was full of fun for them. It had big slides, swings, jumping place for tots and a big jungle gym :) Kids loved it. They close the zoo at 6 and we had to literally drag them out. They didnt want to leave!!
8-Sep-2009 :

We did not have a party for Ashu because of several reasons - They closed the place where he wanted to have a party. It was called cyber tag with laser tage games. He did not want to have the party at bounce zone - the other fun place. Finally, i smashed my finger in the car and was in a bad shape. To compensate for that, we took the kids to Dollywood the following weekend. They had a blast. We stayed in Pigeon forge for two days and went to dollywood on both days and we also went to a place called MagiQuest. It was good too. It was like a place where HarryPotter could live :) They gave us a magic wand and sent us on different quests. By the time we understood and finished the quest our time was up and we did not win. To add to it, aj was troubling us as he did not get a wand. They dont provide wands for vaandus :)

14-Sep-2009
The party continued this weekend too..We took ashu's friends to cici's pizza for lunch. It's a mini chuck-e-cheese kinda place with game arcade. After lunch the kids had a blast in the arcade. Aj figured out that in one of the machines, if you put coin you will get atleast one candy and was after that :-) Ashu, H and A were doing all crazy boy stuff and had a total blast. R and S were all girly and were having fun in a different style. Amit and Aj were the ones who did not know what to do..but still managed to have fun :) The kids wer very well behaved @cici's..so, we took a chance and took them to big o' donuts for dessert. Boy were we wrong! The sugar kicked in and all of them were troubling us...Kanna kattiduthu. Then, we dropped ritu and amit and atharva said he wants to come with us..so we took the rest of them home and they continued to have fun. Veedu rendaachu..that's a different story. It will take me a week to straighten it up i think. The boys wanted to open the RoboSapien that Suresh sent..They were soo thrilled and excited when they opened it and lo and behold we did not have the batteries that were required for it. What a bummer! I told the boys i will invite them again to play with it after getting the batteries. I asked them to play with the gifts radhika sent, but ashu hid it from AJ and did not want to open it in front of him :) Ashu has not cleaned up his room after they left and i am sure Aj is gonna break some things and tear some things and they are gonna end up in a fight. I dont think i have the strength to clean up ashu's room before that happens!! I guess i will just sit and watch how they fight!! We also went to the temple on Friday for his star birthday and i made his favorite kaju katli. Aj who does not eat store bought kaju katli ate mine..Don't know if that means it was better than store bought or if he thought it was not Kaju katli! Hmmm?

In the temple, one guy was doing thoppu karanam in front of Pillayar and Aj went and stood before him and started doing thoppu karanam for him. It looked like he was pazhichufying him. Tension aaitan andha aal and i was so embarassed. It was funny though :)

Dentist Visit

Last week was Aj's first dentist visit. We took both Ashu and AJ and Ashu did great as usual. Aj was okay at the first. I was actually expecting him to throw a fit when they asked him to open his mouth, but he did fine. When they started brushing his teeth to apply flouride he just started chomping on the brush. After that, when the dentist came he was pretty pissed off because we had to wait for 30+ minutes. By that time he started getting impatient and refused to open his mouth to the dentist..we finally tried several tricks and made him open. No cavities! Sigh!

School Reopens!!

Ashu's school started last week and his teacher is Ms.Oster. She didn't talk much the first day and i left with a wierd feeling, but now i'm seeing Ashu's work and the pace in which she is giving classwork and i'm slowly getting happy :-)

Ashu was a little bummed on first day because he and his buddy A are in different classes again, but his daycare friend Sam is in his class now and he's another smarty pants and i'm thinking there will be some healthy competition between them. Yay!

Aj is into new room and is kalakkifying as usual. All teachers are awe-struck that he can read lot of words already. I started potty training him, finally! Yeah, i am late with him, but with my health and busy work schedule it was so hard to initiate the process. He is so different from Ashu. Not so easy..This one's gonna give me more greys for sure :-) If i take him to the potty chair he goes..no fuss there, but if he doesn't have to go and i take him by mistake he sits there till it comes and doesn't let me move..Aaargh!! Then, when he wants to go potty he just removes the pullups and goes right there.. My hands are so sore with all the cleaning!! Sigh!

We had a get2gether at Dr.C's house and both kids had a riot. Ashu, especially. There were 5 boys his age group and 2 older boys. They made a huge mess but had tons of fun. Sangeetha (Dr. C's wife) is patience personified. She did not mind the mess at all. She was way too cool. I was the one who was getting tensed. If it were my house my BP would have shot up, i guess! :)
Aj had fun in his own way. He was really good and did not make any mess. Overall, both were very well behaved! Towards the end, aj started running behind the older boys and they literally ran over him once and we all ran towards aj thinking he will start crying, but my tough boy just bounced back in a fraction of a second and started running behind them. Everyone was awestruck at his enthusiasm :-)

More later folks!

30-Jul-2009
I went for my EMG test yesterday. It was not as bad as i expected...Totally opposite to the MRI :-)I had no idea about MRI and i thought they would just be done with it in couple of minutes like they show in movies and i was shocked when it turned out to be a nasty experience. It was way toooooo noisy and it was cold and i kept having
the feeling that i was falling off. I felt sick on my stomach the whole day!! This time i didn't want to take a chance and went with B. Adhuve paadhi thembu for me. The crazy doctor tried hard to keep me distracted by asking several annoying
questions about india, and about work. I didn't realize those questions were to distract me and was so annoyed with him for asking so many questions. It hurt only twice and it was bad. I had the pain for over an hour. When we came back, B got me icecream - edho samadhana padutha vaangi tharaa maari irundhudhu :-) The ice cream shop was between aj's daycare and ashu's Summer camp. So, we had already picked up aj and when B gave my icecream and ashu's icecream to me, aj started
screaming and crying thinking he gave them all to me :-) He was fine as soon as he gave his icecream. He is like me when it comes to
icecream, finished the whole cup - satham podama :-) Ashu took just couple of spoons and said he was full. So not like me!!
He even gave us a word of advice that next time we should buy only one and he and AJ will share and that way we wont waste our money.
I told him, he maybe willing to share, but not aj :-)
It wont be fun if i dont share my answer to one of the questions that the doctor asked. He is from Vietnam and follows buddhism. He asked
me if we were hindus and i said yes. He asked how much % of people in india follow budhism and i said close to 0% and he asked why is it so when buddha was born in india and
he is accepted in other countries and not in india. Indha maari kelvi ketta enna badhil solradhu..adhuvum kaila oosi kuthinde. i was totally annoyed, but didn't want to give up
and said 'we all like buddha, but he is human so we could not take him as God' :-)God only knows why! :)

27-Jul-2009 :
We are back to the old routine now. AJ is moving to the next room (Orange to Blue) today.
When i dropped him in the morning, he was so confused when i walked him into the blue room.
He just dragged me towards the orange room and i said, no AJ you goto the new room today.
He wasn't too happy. Then, i opened the door wider and made him look inside. He saw Alaina and
was convinced a bit and entered into blue room, but he still didn't want to let go of me since
Ms.Casey was not there. He gets Ms.Cathy from orange room and Ms. tammie from red room.
Ms.Tammie was his favorite teacher in the red room. When i took him to her, he just pushed her and turned
his face away!! He was quite unhappy with the change. Ms.Tammie distracted him with the paper fish that were
haning from the cieling and i snuck out. i can tell it's gonna be a tough week!!
Ashu is going to Victory full time - this week and next week. He likes it there and his friends come there too.
So, no issues with him. He was quite happy :-) Infact, this annoyed AJ in the first place. He wanted to goto Victory too, but
they won't take kids younger than 5!! :-) Aj was screaming and saying let's go back when i drove to daycare from victory!! :D
Ashu went to G-Force (Disney 3D movie) yesterday with Atharva's dad. Atharva's dad took 6 kids with him (Bless his heart! :))
When Ashu left, aj started crying. He was soooo upset with all of us. I gave him a lollipop and a candy cane and then he was little better.
He slept on the couch. Poor dude. When he got up he was still angry for sometime, then he was back to normal. He has an attitude.
Very stylish attitude, i should say :-) He doesn't listen to us, but deals with all the fuss very stylish-ly. On our way back from Atlanta,
i took him to the restroom to change his diaper. When i was washing my hands, he went and touched the trash and i got sooo mad at him.
I said how many times have i told you not to touch trash cans. He said six. Boy, was i mad or what!? :) Also, when we ask him if he wants
something and if he doesn't care about it, he says No, if he really wants it, he wont say yes. Durai has seemadh Gambiram..he would
just say uh-huh which sounds he is okay if we give it, but he doesn't care otherwise! :-) But deep inside i know he's desparate. If it is Ashu, and if it something he wants,
Ashu will just start begging for it. He'll do anything to get it..but, this dude has an attitude, u see!! Like i said, AJ is into saying 'uh-huh' now..
and we keep asking him..are you naughty, are you a dirty boy and things like that and he goes uh-huh, very stylishly. LOL!

Two more weeks to school...

Ashu's got just 2 more weeks of vacation. I think he hasn't realized that yet because he hasnt started whining about
going back to school. He's actually more excited about going to Victory Gymnastics Summer camp for the next 2 weeks.
Maybe in all that excitement, he didn't care about the school reopen :)
Aj's moving to the next room (Blue room) from Orange room next week. People comment that he can move to the Green room
already since he knows so much!! He has started reading more. When i say reading, it's not just what we teach and by memorizing the
words. He tries and reads most of the new words and is pretty close to him. For example, he has never seen the word 'sled' before
and in one of the rhyming books it says bed rhymes with sled and i read bed rhymes with and he looked at sled for few seconds and
said sssssled. when i showed dragon fly he tried and read it as drawfly. i thought it was pretty close and neat!!

A big update - covering more than month!! :)

Week of july 20 (The sixsigma week!)
I hate travelling to nashville everyday. i have to get up at 5.30 and leave the house at 6.15. Aj figured out on thursday that i'm leaving early and got at 6 and started crying. I put on the chicka chicka video and he was okay after that! Phew! Everyday, he misses me so much that when i come back he comes to me and eeshifies much more than usual and gives me compliments for
my earrings and necklace saying they are pity (pretty) and bootiful :-)
If i konj ashu, he says my turn and squeezes himself between us and gets extra konjing :-)

Jul15 : I took Ashu to sign up for his summer camp at Victory for today and tomorrow for the Splish splash week. The guy who did the registration asked me to spell his name and when i spelt Ashu's name, aj spelt his name to write ;-) He said you are too young buddy. Can you sing ABC? Aj started reading all the letters on the notice board and i think he was floored :D He said, 'you are still too young buddy' :-) Ashu was so excited to goto Victory today. Hiren's there too and he's been asking me for weeks now!!
Today, my mil was watching t.v. and all of a sudden aj bit her fingers real hard. I think he's teething. She screamed and asked him to stop biting her finger and he casually said 'now show me your arm'. That little stinker! Ashu complained that his throat was hurting and he can't sleep when i asked him to goto sleep. I said then he can't goto victory tomorrow and he still said his throat was hurting. i thought he was probably really not well, but before that i wanted to
try one more time and said 'hiren gets to go tomorrow, but your throat is important and you need to stay home and take care of it' and he immediately said 'he was feeling little better already and begged me to take him to victory if he was all better' This trick always works! :D

Week of july 11th
We went to Pittsburgh and Niagara this weekend. I was feeling sad because it was appa amma's wedding anniversary and
knowing amma, i knew how much she would've missed appa that day. For some reason, i was reminded of their 25th anniversary and
the good time we had that day!
The flight trip was horrible due to bad weather. There was bad turbulence and the plane was shaking real bad and was going up and down
like roller coaster. I was scared deep inside. Both the kids were terrified. Aj was soooo scared that he hugged me so tight and when the flight
started going up and down, he went to B and kept saying it is falling, it is falling and fell asleep. Ashu was screaming and at one point,
he said 'if they give me a choice between flying in this flight and eating dog food, i would rather pick dog food. Till that point, i was scared too, but on hearing that i started
laughing so hard and i was feeling better after that. God only knows where he thought of this!! :-)
We reached columbus and took the minivan and went to nearby udipi restaurent to have lunch. We were so hungry that we ordered stuff left and right,
And the waiter kept brining one by one and each of it was MEGA size. I burst out laughing when i saw everything that we had ordered. What were we thinking! B kept asking me to be quiet, but i could not control my laughter. But, i came up with a wise idea and packed the food we ordered for kids and couple of other stuff for dinner. We were good after that. After the heavvvvvy lunch, we drove to niagara and reached there around 9, had dinner and went to see niagara in the night with all the lighting. It reminded me of the trip i went with appa, amma.
We had so much fun that time. Aj was a little baby and was soooo manageable. Actually, appa only took care of him for the most part. Carrying him and walking around. It was easy for me. Ashu asked me why i looked sad and i told him the reason. He said, now that you mentioned it i am feeling sad too because i can never come back to niagara with sridhar. I felt bad for making him sad too.
But, it was unintentional and i could not hide my feeling. This time around it was a different deal with aj. Boy! Was he a trouble or what!! He kept running around and i had to carry him.
It was pretty hard to walk around and the 6 hr drive didn't help my legpain..my feet were swollen and i was polambing and my fil said 'me too' :-)
His feet were swollen too! Mil had a tough time since we had climb down stairs from parking lot and we were all polambing and B was looking at us like janthus..nalla family-nu oru certificate vera!
Next day, we went for maid of the mist and observation tower alone. We skipped cave of the winds this time. Ashu loved the maid of the mist and all aj wanted to do was look at the other side!
He kept saying it is raining. It was not raining actually, when the boat went near the falls, the water was splashing on us and he thought it was raining. When i asked what did you see, he said niagara falling! instead of falls. When were getting out there was a man standing with a pair of parrots and said we could take pictures with it for some donation. Ashu and I took pictures with the parrot.
The way parrot held my hand was wierd. It felt like it was scratching me. Aj was not scared at all. He tried to pull the feathers and the man got kinda ticked off and told him to just pat. Luckily aj stopped pulling the feathers :-)
We left Niagara after lunch and went to pittsburgh. B and I watched IIFA awards in star plus, in the hotel. It was the same hotel where we stayed with appa, amma.
We went to the temple next day and when we came out we met a Sindhi couple from Coimbatore. They were attracted by Ashu and started talking to him and then started talking to us.
They had come for their 25th anniversary. They were very friendly and took pictures with us. They said they will send it by mail and asked us to keep in touch.
Then, we left and came to the airport and left to cookeville. This time the flight journey wasn't all that bad! After the trip, i realized how sweet our home is! Home Sweet Home! :-)

Oh and the day before we left, they had a puppet show at Aj's daycare. Aj's teacher said they made all the children sit down before the show started and asked them to be quiet till the show started.
After couple of minutes, all of a sudden aj said 'Let the show begin' and all the teachers burst out laughing :-) Don't know where he's getting all these ideas from :-)

Week of july 5
We went to indian restaurtent today and the restaurent owner asked us how the food was and before we said anything, aj said 'it is vely vely good'. Actually, he was really enjoying the pakoras at that time. But, when it has to do with aj, there should be a funny twist, right?
As soon as the owner stepped away, he said, 'it is vely vely bad..vely vely bad'. Boy! Were we glad he didnt say that in front of him. The food wasn't bad, but he's into opposites now..so whatever he says, he usually says the opposite following it :) I dont think the restaurent guy would've bought that!! :D

July 4th fireworks fizzled out...

They said they would have the fireworks at 9.30, so we left leisurely around 8.40 and by the time we reached they were done with the fireworks. apparently, they had advanced it by 45 minutes due to rain. GRR! But, we got to see a private show at our neighbourhood which was good too. Aj enjoyed it from inside. When we opened the window, he was terrified of the sound and ran inside. Ashu was happy that he got to see atleast this private show ;-) Anyways, we were in the mood to cancel our plans to go there as we were dead tired after having guests for lunch. I still don't understand one thing...I did all the cooking and cleaning and B was dead tired?! Gandhari style i guess! I wish this theory works and i lose weight if B exercises or atleast he gains weight for what i eat. HEHEHE!

Week of jun8

Ashu's got playdate at Atharva's house today. Boy was he good or what? He did everything we asked him to do. B and I asked (keeping a straight face, ofcourse) if he would
do 100 thoppu karanams before going to Atharva's house and he was ready. LOL! You know, he was in the 'thalai kaal puriala' state. It was too funny to watch him.
Aj's got water play time today. Ofcourse he's fish in water..so the teachers will have trouble getting him back to the class. He slept for 3 hours in the afternoon, yesterday and he went to bed only at 11.45 :-OAnd he woke up along with me at 6.50 :-( My eyes have started looking more like Vijaykant's eyes :( Dude did not eat proper lunch at school last week. Hope it improves this week. He ate good at home though. Vickie (my colleague) was saying that her granddaughter (goes to aj's class) eats good at daycare and does not touch food at home. I guess it's universal with kids to trouble for food!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week of jun 1

Wake up, Jeff, errrr Vidya!!
Yep...I'm sooo tired now. Aj woke us at around 2.30 in the night two nights in a row and the reason is : 'C'mon let's go bye'.
Imagine how my head was spinning when i heard that! He was crying so much when we didn't take him bye bye.
One good or bad thing about this is - he is fair to both parents (unlike ashu) and wakes both of us. Ashu's target was always me and only me :)
Ashu's summer vacation started and he's already bored and eats my brain :) He called me a dozen times yesterday. I told my friend (translate as begged to my friend)
to send her son for play date and he just called me once to ask if he can eat the cupcake that Atharva got with him. How nice and quiet it is! :D

quick update

Aj got his his right bottom molar on 2nd July (17th tooth) and left bottom molar on 4th july.
2 more to go. Aj's teething symptoms were terrible, unlike ashu's. He had diaper rashes, he would not eat well..etc etc. Now these for the ordinary teeth and i was terrified of the molars and guess what! no symptoms. Wierd, but good :)

June Update

June was crazy at work..Version release and late night working and what not?! :( Ashu's enjoying his summer hols..kind of. He gets bored at home sometimes and starts complaining. I worked out a deal with Atharva's mom and he comes here or Ashu goes to their house. So, he's back to being happy. He also goes to Science workshop at the children's museum once a week. Last week, he went to tumbling camp. Dude can do cartwheel now (still has room for improvement) and i'm so proud and happy :)

Aj has started reading lots of words now. More than 100 i would say. He also knows some of his books by heart now. If Ashu reads a book, aj takes one of his books and reads aloud. It's so funny to watch him do it. He keeps his face as if it's a piece of cake! :) He's continuing to be naughty too. This is just a quick update..hope this month will be better and i can write more. With my hand pain, it's hard to type long posts too.

2 yr check up

We had the 2 year check up 3 months after the 2nd birthday! But, it was the doctor's suggestion to not bring him during the winter and the flu season. Here are the stats :
28lbs (with shoes)
37.5 in (with shoes)
He was talking non stop and impressing people as usual :) When the doc came in, he congratualted B and shook his hands. Aj showed his hands and doc said congrats. Aj corrected saying 'happy birthday'. So, doc said happy birthday and aj said 'where's the cake' ROFL :D

Ashu had play date with Atharva and had a blast. They did some mischief too..they tried to run on tread mill on the highest speed and hurt their legs. Thankfull a minor scrape only. Got a warning from us. Overall they both had a wonderful day!

May Update

First of all, you all know that B has graduated!! I was more excited than B and Ashu was more excited than me. Now, dont ask me why he was more excited because, i have no idea. He was asking me for the last 2 months when may 11th would come. After graduation, he is giving B raja mariyadhai :-)
He had his awards ceremony on 21st of May and after the ceremony they said we can take him home. I went earlier to edam pidichufy..so i can get good pics. The lighting sucked and kaalavaari vittufied..anyways, that soga kadhai apart..it was a very exciting day. Ashu got the following awards :
1. Certificate for Reading Achievement + Medal for the same
2. Certifate for all Es honor roll + Medal for the same
3. Physical Education Medal (I almost fainted there as he was only 'S' last year!)
4. Certificate for outstanding Merit achievement.
We were very proud of him. He didn't get Math award this time because he made careless mistakes in couple of tests and got only 97 and 98. Looks like you have to get straight 100s in all. Not fair! :(

Ok, coming back to the original story - after the award ceremony, i asked ashu if he wanted to come in my car or appa's car and he said since i'm a 1st grade graduate, i will go with appa because he is a graduate too. I said i am a graduate too..i got my masters..and he said 'haha...' What a great insult!!Worse than when he said his mom is a driver when asked about what mom is doing..Idhukkudhaan kozhandha porandhapram padikkanum pola irukku! :) Thanks to Bobby, i dont have my graduation photo to prove it.

Aj is talking a lot..but only when he wants to..if he's not in a mood he won't care to reply :) He reads a lot now..i think he can recognize close to 75 words now. He counts till 100 with little help. He troubles and bosses around Ashu a lot. More later..my hand is hurting :( Don't know why!

Something really funny!

Today when i dropped aj, it was raining outside. I was telling Ms. Allison that this is the first time i'm driving to Atlanta all by myself and it is raining. Aj heard raining and he went and got this tiny umbrella magnet and gave it to me and said umbwella amma. it is raining :) So cute and thoughtful :D

He can read so many words now and Allison said that every teacher that comes to their room goes gaga over how smart aj is :)

Ashu is all excited about B's graduation. First of all, he gets to goto Emory again. He loves it! He's so excited that he even agreed to wear formal and i almost fainted on that! :D Ashu got his monthly report and he got 100 in Science and English. 99.5 in Math and 97 in Reading. I asked him why he got only 97 since his teacher says he is the most fantastic reader in class. He said when they test they can't understand few of his words because he is indian! Go figure!!

I am off to Atlanta today for B's Graduation. Will write more next week..haven't updated this blog in ages!

April Updates

Oh dear...life has become sooo hectic. Don't know if it is because i am working full time now and doing a critical project or because the kids are growing up and are demanding more attention and are naughtier too or because B is out of town so often...Anyways, i'm still managing to update my food blog once a while to keep up with the events, but this blog is ignored big time :( This to me is more special than the other blog, but is being taken for granted. Just like how we are nice to people who are not so close to us, but show the rotten side to those who are close to us and mean more to us.

Now for the quick updates :

Ashu is doing great and got 'E' in all subjects and G in music and 'E' in PE. Wow that makes me sooo happy.
He is doing good with his Karate and i'm thinking of starting gymnastics for him..Maybe not now as he has to go for swimming this summer.

Aj - Now what do i say about this dude? I heard they are going to change the meaning of naughty to Aj :-) He's naughty to the core. He has helped Ashu earn a good name. But as much naughty as he is, he is brilliant and sweet. This little dude is so much like Ashu but with minor differences. Like B says, Aj is Ashu-v2 :-)

Aj has started ***reading*** the following words :
Names : mine, ashu's B's and his name.
Colours : Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Orange, White, Black, Pink,Brown
Shapes : Circle, Square
Animals : Cow, Dog, Cat
Others :INDIA :-), Front, Back, Sit, Stand, Shapes (he says sapes :D), Colors, Big, Small, Sit, Stand.

I can write these in any order and he says them right :)

He read these for Ms.Kathy and Ms.Jody at his daycare and they were amazed. Ms. Jody asked me the secret to raising early readers and she said i'm doing a great job with my kids. FYI, Ms. Jody was Ashu's teacher in the 3 yr old room where Ashu started reading. Ashu started reading level 1 books when he was 3 yrs and 10 months old and was the talk of daycare:) Am glad i got some credit for this...Some people just say they are brilliant and learn it by themselves..Basically, they don't want to agree that i work with them..LOL! :)

My inlaws are here now and are awestruck at aj's music knowledge. He remembers the lyrics of 100+ songs - which include rhymes -both tamil and english, tamil movie songs, carnatic songs and hindi movie songs. My mil asked me when and how i taught him and i told her i sing to him in the car when i take him to the school or sing to him in the night before he goes to sleep. He remembers the lyrics so well, even though he can't say most of the words :) Funniest is, we were listening to Bombay songs in the car when we were going to Atlanta to pickup my inlaws and he would've listened to kannalane for probably 3 times. After couple of times, i was singing this song to him and when i stopped with first para, he continued saying gummu gummu gubbuchoo (for gumsuma gumsuma guppucha..) and when i sang that he continued with salsalsal. It was very very funny.

I understand...

First off, it's spring break for Mr.Ashu. Boy, is he excited or what!! :-) He's going to Victory gymnastics for day camp and is all super charged :-) He loves it there. Talked to his teacher on Friday (b4 the spring break) and she said that he's going great with A.R. He used to get in lot of trouble when he was doing lower level books as he used to finish them fast. She said she is giving him 3.8 level books now and it's longer and keeps him occupied. I asked her if he's comprehending well and she said she tests him on that too and he's doing awesome :-) Guess what? after all the compliments he came home with 2 cards for talking during the class hours!!
Talking is in the genes..don't know how to fix that part ;-)

Aj, is going to be the next A.R.Rahman :-) He sings all the time and catches the tune very fast. Y'day i was watching Vaali in bits and pieces. He was sitting and playing near by and looked at the t.v only during commercials and songs. Well, he listened to sona , i love you love you da song just once and later when i was trying to make him sleep he was singing sona i wuv voo wuv voo in the same tune. I was so surprised. Now he sings some ads like amma gumma semma strong-a! When sun dish (or whatever that is) comes, he says Veetukku veedu sun tan tan tan! I knew both the ads only after he said that!!

Now he recognizes all the colours. Pink, blue, green (gween), red (Ved), yellow (lello), orange (owange), black, white, purple. Today, Ms.Kathy asked me to dress him up in something green tomorrow as it is St.Patricks day. Aj said 'dress in something blue', dress in something owange..and he went on with all the colours except green! :) She was laughing so much.
When i dropped him in the morning and said bye..he said 'bye, see you, u too'. I said 'Have a good day' expecting him to repeat as he is in the mirror me mode. He said 'you too' like a big boy! :)

Yday, he opened ashu's construction toy box and dumped the whole thing. It had small parts in it, so i hurriedly put them back and told him not to touch that box as it is Ashu anna's. He said 'I unnershtaandh' (I understand). B and I couldn't control our laughter :) More later folks..i am in a roll here ...typed (and copied pasted) a lot today.

found the update... :-)

Ok, i did a search in my gmail and found the updates :

Here you go.. (Thanks to the wonderful soul that found ctrl+c, ctrl + v :))
Feb 14 -----------

We took a bold step and went to the indian restaurent with both the kids and guess what..aj didn't trouble much and both kids ate quite good..usually, it's such a waste to take them to the indian restaurent. Ashu would eat only naan and nothing else and aj won't eat anything and concentrate on running around and pulling things from the tables. This time they both enjoyed the food too. I probably jinxed it! We went quite late so probably they were really hungry and the quieter environment made them quiet too! We were sooo tired and sleepy after eating out,but the kids were fresh and in full form...there is nothing new there.

Tutu's attagasam has become too much. He has started annoying Ashu way too much. It's way too funny to watch though :) Hehehe...I gave them both a book for Vday. I gave 'Pirates don't change diapers' for Ashu and he said it's pretty funny. I gave llama llama mad at mama for Aj and i read it for him. He sat thro' the whole book and was giggling for certain things :) Looked like he enjoyed the book thoroughly. Also, after i was done, he was reading llama llaama mmaaamma...:)
I baked little hearts for them and guess what they were more like little funny shapes. They were just okay because even after baking for more than 45 minutes they were still not crisp. i think the oven is not working properly :( Seriously...i'm not trying to blame it on the oven ;-)

Ashu and Me have become like Senthil and Gaunda mani...You know how Senthil would ask questions that are impossible to answer..he's doing that to me now!! I was going thro' the weekly note that Ms.West sends to all the parents. In that, she had mentioned that most of the students have started AR and some have even started getting certificates. I believe they get certificates when they finish 'n' no. of books. She also mentioned that lot of students are trying to finish more books so they can get ceritificates, and don't care about quality over quantity and that she's gonna count only the tests where they got over 80%...Ashu has got 100% in all the tests so far, except one in which he got 80 as he missed one question. I dont know how many books they need to finish to get a certificate and i asked Ashu to find out how many books he needs to finish to get a certificate and he casually said I will TRY to find out..That was my first GRR..then, i asked him how come there are some kids that got certificates already and why he couldn't finish that many books. He said but i read higher level books than them. Fair enough..because it may take more time to finish those books. But, to annoy me he added to what he said and asked ' Didn't you read about what Ms.West said about quantity and quality?' why are you asking me about quantity...Now seriously..doesn't it sound like Senthil Gaunda mani dialogues?
Today morning Aju saw a commercial of Dora the explorer where Boots ran to Dora and gave a hug and said Dooooraa in a loving way. He came to me and gave a hug and said Dooooraa in the same way as boots. it was soooo cute :)
